Short-Term Respite
A place to stay for a few days or a few weeks
Respite is a short stay in a furnished apartment with everything a permanent resident gets: the meals, the activities, the transportation, and the care. It exists for the weeks when staying at home is not going to work.
Why people use it
Four reasons families call about respite
Getting strength back
Discharge day comes faster than anyone is ready for. A respite stay gives someone meals they do not have to make, help with medications, and access to our in-house physical, occupational and speech therapy while they recover.
So you can go
Caregiving does not pause for a wedding, a work trip, or your own surgery. A respite stay means the person you care for is somewhere with company and round-the-clock associates, not somewhere they are simply being watched.
A trial run that is not a commitment
A tour tells you what a place looks like. Two weeks tells you what it is like to live there: whether the food is good on a Tuesday, whether anyone says hello, whether it feels like somewhere you could stay.
Somewhere to be in between
Selling a home, waiting on repairs, or bridging the gap until an apartment opens up. A short stay is easier than moving twice.
What a stay includes
Everything a permanent resident gets
Respite guests are not visitors parked in a spare room. They eat in the dining room, join the activities, ride the transportation, and are looked after by the same associates.
- A furnished apartment
- Three chef-inspired meals per day
- Housekeeping and linen service
- Basic utilities
- The full activities calendar
- Scheduled transportation
- Medication management where needed
- 24-hour associates on site
Length, cost and availability
Respite is arranged case by case, and it depends on what is open and what care is needed. Rather than publish a number that would be wrong for half of the people reading it, tell us the situation and we will give you a real answer, usually the same day.
Common questions
Before you call
What should we bring?
Clothing, medications in their original packaging, and anything that makes a room feel less like a room: photographs, a favourite blanket, a radio. The apartment itself is furnished.
Can a respite stay turn into moving in?
It often does, and that is fine. Plenty of residents started with two weeks and simply never went home. Nothing about a respite stay obliges you either way.
Does insurance or Medicare cover it?
Coverage for short stays depends on the person, the policy, and why the stay is happening. Tell us the circumstances and we will walk through what might apply, including VA benefits if the guest is a veteran or a surviving spouse.
How much notice do you need?
It depends entirely on what is open. Sometimes we can take someone within a day or two, sometimes not. Asking costs nothing and takes a minute.
