Our people

The only reviews that matter

We could write another paragraph about our commitment to dignity. Instead, here are four residents describing what actually changed when they moved in, including the parts that were hard.

Independent Living

JR and Gerry, on their 32nd anniversary

JR and Gerry sold their home in Illinois and moved to Jefferson County to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They looked at a lot of places before choosing this one.

Other places didn't have what we really needed or wanted. Residents and staff treat you like family here and are especially caring. This is the real retirement living that we imagined. The food is delicious, and along with relaxation, there are always so many activities and outings for both of our interests. Most importantly, we quickly gained faith and trust in the staff. We live very independently here and are serviced with sincere care and dignity.

Independent Living

Albert, two years in

Albert came to Autumn Ridge after his wife of 48 years passed away. He had lost twenty pounds, and a friend was calling him every day about the importance of eating properly. He was also exhausted by grass cutting, snow removal and general maintenance, and he did not know which home services company he could trust.

This is true retirement, and this is the best place for me. I cannot think of a better place. I knew I needed to get on and do something different and it was time for self-care. At Autumn Ridge, I trust I am in good hands. I have become healthier and can really relax. The flower beds we made do not replace the greenhouse I had at my home, though I find them fulfilling each day to tend to.

Ed, who chose Autumn Ridge twice

Ed was drafted at 19 and sent to basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1961. He came from a line of veterans: his father flew missions over the Himalayas in the Second World War, and his brother served too. Ed served much of his time at Fort Campbell, with postings in Germany and Italy, and held roles including Maintenance Warrant Officer and Staff Warrant Officer. He volunteered for Vietnam, where he flew helicopters from 1968 to 1972.

It was not until my missions in Vietnam that I felt I was accomplishing what I know I could do with immense passion and purpose. My role was to function in an extremely combative environment under immense danger, to transport all of the wounded and deceased. I feel grateful to have survived and still harbor internal pain for those who had their lives taken. I would go again today to fight for the good of all Americans if I could.
Ed Resident, U.S. Army veteran

Ed left Autumn Ridge once for personal reasons and then came back to what he now calls home. His first reason for choosing it is the dedicated staff who care deeply about his wellness. His second is an atmosphere he says he cannot compare to other communities: peace, trust, support and good will.

We are proud to care for veterans

Ed is one of several veterans living here. We help residents and families apply for the VA's Aid and Attendance benefit, which can meaningfully change what senior living costs a veteran or a surviving spouse.

My mother needs help with her medications. Is that something you do?

Yes. That falls under our Residential Care level, which is state licensed and includes medication management along with 24-hour associates on site. Would it help if I walked you through what changes between Independent Living and Residential Care?

Yes, and what does it cost?

A real exchange pattern. Ask your own above.
